Professor Akin earned her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. She most recently served as a research associate at the University of Kansas. Her research interests include long term foster care and children with severe emotional disturbance, foster care and the use of psychotropic drugs and psychotropic drug use among Medicaid recipients. She is currently Co-Principal Investigator on three federally-funded demonstration projects.
